Launching With Passion!
The
response to David Raithby and Sandey McCartney’s new book about
Living
with Passion has been exceptional! Feedback we receive consistently
notes and appreciates their ability to translate the essence of their ideas
into impactful print. And when we consider David and Sandey’s own
passion for living, and willingness to share it with others, their success
really comes as no surprise!
Those of you in the Vancouver and Nanaimo areas will have an opportunity
to meet and speak with David and Sandey at their upcoming book launches.
Monday February 6 they will be at the Vancouver Central Library, 350 West
Georgia Street, in the Alma VanDusen and Peter Kaye Meeting Rooms (just
below the main concourse) 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm. Making a great evening
even better will be the music and heart of LoriAnn Speed, who will open
the evening with her magical piano touch. If you don’t have your
copy yet, not to worry Banyen Books is co-sponsoring the event, and
will have copies of Living with Passion available for purchase and
signing by the authors.
Vancouver Island residents can join Sandey and David in launching their
book Thursday February 16 at the Katz Martini Lounge 121 Bastion Street
in Nanaimo. The Katz is a wonderful spot for an evening of conversation
and connection, and when you add in the pleasure and stimulation of conversation
and connection with David and Sandey...well, there lies all the ingredients
for a great time!
Here’s Looking at You!
We tried to think of some wonderfully enlightened, appreciative, aware
way to tell you about Reflections ’05. The days were a collage of
stimulating, engaging morning-session conversations; afternoons that ranged
from quiet naps to tangos and potato cannons; evenings filled with all
kinds of magic—real and imagined; a New Years Eve that truly defies description,
and a New Years morning that spoke from, and to, the heart.
And it seems like a better idea just to tell you it was absolutely
amazing and show you the picture we took on the last morning (from
the roof in the Phoenix Auditorium!) of PART of the entire group.
A face is worth a thousand pictures!
If you were here, you likely have your own collection of great stories,
and if you weren’t here, you may be happy to know that many people took
the time to include the spirit of absent friends like you...and to all
of you, we hope you all come next time!

Wellness Show 2006—Come Say Hello!
The Haven will again be part of this year’s Vancouver Wellness Show,
Friday February 3 to Sunday 5 at “The Sails”, the Vancouver Trade &
Convention Centre. Given that the core of The Haven is relationship
and communication, it just makes sense that we be part of opportunities
for conversation! Since we began our association with the Vancouver
Wellness Show in 2003, each year the response has grown. And what
we like best is the conversations. The more we speak and listen with
each other...the more common ground we find. The good folks who volunteer
at our booth often end the day asking when they can come back. And
the answer to our “why” always includes the pleasure of connection.
After the 2004 show we began conversations with the Vancouver Wellness
Show organizers about sponsoring a workshop series during the show.
Our intention was to offer interactive sessions that would give people
a more “hands-on” learning experience. Last year’s inaugural Workshop
Series was the result of these conversations. This year’s presentations
will be even better—a more private setting, a broader range of presenters,
and best of all (from our slightly biased perspective!) there will be five
presentations by members of our faculty. Carole Ames will make two
presentations on The Quantum Laugh—Shifting with Humour, Friday
at 1pm and Saturday at 11am; Rick Jackson’s presentation, Spiritual
Intelligence: Integrating the Search for Meaning is scheduled for 2:15pm
Saturday, followed at 5:15pm by Marlyn Farrell’s session based on her course
Primal
Whisperings. Sunday at 2pm Phil Winkelmans will present
Tools
for the Soul®.
We would love to see you—come for the faculty sessions; drop by our
booth anytime Friday February 3 through Sunday the 5th for a
“conversation”, and pick up a copy of our new Spring 2006 catalogue!

Foundation Appoints New Executive Director
January
14, the Haven Foundation Board unanimously endorsed Rick Jackson as Executive
Director. Rick’s years of association with The Haven as a member
of our core faculty and Board of Directors, blended with his 25-plus years
working with individuals and organizations to facilitate awareness and
growth, make him a natural for this new position. As Executive Director
he will oversee all aspects of The Haven.
“It is a great honour for me personally to take on the tasks associated
with Executive Director.” says Rick, “As I told the Board upon my acceptance
of their unanimous offer, I will do my ‘level best’ to make this next phase
in the development of The Haven work for everyone and especially for those
who come to take our courses.” |
