Living With Passion Comes To Life!
During
the 20+ years they have been life and work partners, David Raithby and
Sandey McCartney have lived, explored and shared passion. In virtually
every possible avenue, from incidental conversations to focused course
presentations, their thoughtful and innovative insights have been food
for thoughts and actions. Now, in the latest ‘Book about Living
with Passion’ David and Sandey are bringing their ideas to more people
than ever.
Their book draws on a wealth of personal and professional experience
to demonstrate how passion can enrich every aspect of our daily lives.
In a concise and passionate style, David and Sandey present provocative
ideas and practical suggestions intended to help the reader embrace the
possibilities passion offers to a flourishing lifestyle. Let’s put
it this way...if you have ever spent time with David and/or Sandey (such
as their coming Passion for Couples course February 10-13), you
likely have experienced their unmistakable energy, honesty, warmth, humour
and care...now imagine all this and more page after page after page and
you have a taste of a ‘Book about Living with Passion’!

Building on a Strong Foundation
Do you ever have the experience of really appreciating people, and
for one reason or another rarely taking the opportunity to say so? ...us
too...which is why we want to let you know just how much work is done behind
the scenes, on a purely volunteer basis, by the members of The Haven Foundation
Board. In less than two years this dedicated group of people have:
-
Ensured that The Haven will be on sound financial footing for years to
come
-
Established funding programs that, among other things, have made it possible
for over 40 people to attend courses here this year alone
-
Worked tirelessly on committees that support every facet of The Haven’s
activities, from finance to gardening!
-
Created opportunities for faculty, staff and course participants to come
together and learn more about each other
And though we could go on, we’ll stop here, and simply say there are many
good reasons to be excited about what is happening with The Haven these
days, and what these reasons all have in common is people. People
like you, living an active, thoughtful and caring life; and people like
The Haven Foundation Board, quietly working to take care that The Haven
thrives. To learn more about these good souls and The Haven Foundation,

Faculty Faces
This month we’re focusing on a pair of very familiar faces, and we
bet there are a few things you didn’t know about these two!
Linda
Nicholls, Dip.C., M.T.C., PhD. is one of the true pioneers, having
been involved in virtually every aspect of The Haven from student, to leader,
to manager, as well as serving as a member of core faculty and as a director
on the board of The Haven Foundation. Her incisive, light-hearted,
direct style of working with people is a coalescence of her life experience,
diverse business background and counselling skills. Through lifestyle
educational courses, counselling, coaching and consulting, she facilitates
people to get the most out of life personally, professionally and in relationship
by learning what they need to transform limiting patterns. Linda
has been facilitating groups in North America and Asia for over fifteen
years, creatively working with adults and teens. Her years of experience
in the Orient have come to the fore as she has worked hard throughout the
past year helping to establish The Haven’s presence in Mainland China by
co-leading translated Come Alives and other courses. |
Elfi
M.Dillon-Shaw, RMT, is a registered massage practitioner, bodyworker
and educator with twenty years of experience. Elfi also works as
coordinator, scheduler, and den-mother for all the bodyworkers at The Haven.
Incorporating both eastern and western approaches, her ‘hands on’ practice
includes massage therapy, Shiatsu, Craniosacral Therapy, therapeutic exercise
and integrative bodywork. She travels across Canada and the US leading
workshops on body practices and stress management for professionals and
lay people alike. Her use of movement, meditation, touch, breath, sound
and imagery is spontaneous, fun and offers her students powerful insights.
Elfi is dedicated to fostering experiences of pleasure and well-being.
She lives on Gabriola Island with her husband Gary (and if you look closely
in their back yard you’ll find a much treasured sweat lodge!). |

Growing Awareness
Growing thoughtfully, honestly, and responsibly into their sexuality
is challenging for all young people, and in particular for teenage girls.
Finding opportunities to discuss, share, learn, and most importantly to
be heard, is critical. If this topic is current for you, or your
daughter, niece or friend, we think you may be encouraged to know that
Linda Nicholls and Elfi Dillon Shaw are considering composing a course
solely for teenage young women ages 14 to 19. We believe Linda and
Elfi each have a special gift for being with young people in a respectful
way, offering wisdom, encouragement and acceptance while delicate and sometimes
edgy thoughts and feelings are explored. Linda and Elfi are open
to hearing from people interested in knowing more about this course while
it is in the development stage. If there is sufficient interest in
a course for teen girls dealing with sexuality we will make it available
as soon as possible. Email Elfi (elfi@shaw.ca)
or Linda (lindalee@haven.ca) soon
and add your contribution to making this important opportunity a reality.
Just Quickly...

...and before we go...thanks...if you are reading this you are likely
one of the many people who contribute to the remarkable spirit that we
firmly believe makes a significant and positive difference in our world,
at a time when it is needed and valued more than ever. Cheers!
Take care, enjoy yourself, and each other, and be in touch soon.
