The Symposium Is On The Way!
Our Second International Symposium, set for April 1 and 2 in Vancouver, is building momentum! The Friday evening keynote address, with the truly remarkable Joseph Chilton Pearce, kicks off two days of stimulating and interactive presentations with heart — in more ways than one!  Held in the Ballroom at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Hotel, Pearce’s Friday evening talk is entitled The Heart-Brain Connection: Examining the Biology of Transcendence.  It is hard to know how to describe what this evening may be like, other than to say every time we speak with Joseph we have a real sense of connection with a genuinely warm, and brilliant, human being.  He is excited at the prospect of returning to Vancouver after several years, and we are excited hearing how much he is looking forward to spending time chatting with people and sharing ideas on Saturday afternoon.

The theme for Saturday’s presentations at the Simon Fraser University at Harbour Centre is Being Alive and Well: Pathways to Successful Living.  The intention for the day is to offer a range of topics and faculty presenters with plenty of opportunities for experiential learning and discussion.  The morning begins with choices between three presentations, Shadow, Breath & Energy with Linda Nicholls, Opening to Erotic Life with Gary Dillon & Elfi Dillon Shaw, and Spiritual Intelligence with Rick Jackson.  Next up is Resilient Living with Joann Peterson, Sensations: Mystery & Magicwith Jane Olynyk & Gillian Enright, and Taking a PsychoSpiritual Model to the Workplace with Derek LaCroix.  After lunch (served on-site) will be The ‘Magic’ of Medication with David Raithby, The Art of Coaching Possibilities with Cathy Wilder & Cress Walker, and Writing For Life with Ellery Littleton.  The day concludes with time for informal discussion with Joseph Pearce, The Haven Faculty and Symposium participants.

Lee Pulos Photo The “Power” of Lee Pulos
Lee Pulos, Ph.D., has just returned from Chicago where he was recording his second audio program for Nightingale Conantthe producer and international distributor of Personal Development CD’s and cassettes for speakers and authors such as Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra.  Lee’s first program, “The Power of Visualization”, has received very positive testimonials from people of all walks of life looking for ways to increase focus on specific goals and issues.

His new work, entitled “The Biology of Empowerment”, is based on the material and content he developed for his course “The Power of Self-Hypnosis and The Magic of Belief” coming up March 18-20 at The Haven.  In his 5-session course Lee looks at assumptions and theories of hypnosis; how beliefs are formed, and the contribution our beliefs make to the reality we create for ourselves.

Spending time with Lee is one of life’s treats.  His dynamic and spontaneous style makes room for unexpected and unforgettable learning experiences.  His unique ideas and approaches have resulted in two books, Miracles and Other Realities and Beyond Hypnosis, clinical psychology work with Olympic athletes and Team Canada, a chain of very successful restaurants, and collaborations with many of today’s great minds, including his good friend Bruce Lipton.

Right Now...
Many of our courses offer opportunities to take a new look at the familiar, shake up the “tried and true”, and consider other possibilities.  Whether it is struggles with personal behaviours and habits, challenges with relationships at home, at work or in the community, or a desire to get clear about purpose and passionswhat can you do now to give your life more?

The Haven in Action
At the core of The Haven values is the belief that learnings gained during courses here are only of enduring value if they are “take home”.  We are always excited to hear from people sharing their experiences, challenges and “ah hahs” long after being here.  In short, if it ain’t working everywhere, it ain’t working!  To this end, we are finding — and enjoying — being part of opportunities with people to connect, share and learn in a broad range of communities, events, and environments.

In addition to events like the coming Symposium in Vancouver, we recently sponsored the workshop series of the Vancouver Wellness Show February 4 to 6 with presentations by faculty members Linda Nicholls (pictured here) David Raithby, Wayne Dodge, Gwen Ewan, and Ellery Littleton.  Coming up is the Westcoast Women’s Show in Nanaimo March 5 and 6 where Carole Ames will be a featured presenter.  And we are thrilled to tell you we have just completed details for a series of Come Alive courses in Mainland China this year!  The first is scheduled for the end of April in Shenzhen, led by David Raithby and Linda Nicholls and assisted by Elfi Dillon Shaw, Gillian Enright and Susa Holt.

At the core of these opportunities is people like you, living in every corner of our world, who are stepping forward, taking action, and living a “spirited” life...and we couldn’t be happier about it!

Just Quickly...
Andrew Best and his Archetype Productions video production company have completed the advance work for production of a documentary on Joann Peterson’s Anger, Boundaries & Safety course.  Filming will begin March 25 at The Haven and complete March 28.  Cameras and crew will follow the experiences and process of the course participants, leaders and assistants throughout the process of deepening their connection as a group, and exploring “anger, boundaries, and safety”.  Since the publication of her book on the topic Joann has been receiving increasing recognition for her ground-breaking work in the areas of safe anger expression and the distinctions between violence and anger.  This new production should help spread awareness even further, and offer greater understanding around one of the fundamental challenges of our times.

Working quietly behind the scenes day in and day out are the board and advisors of Haven Foundation, a group of people committed to ensuring the spirit of The Haven thrives for years to come.  Beginning from nothing and making the transition of The Haven from the original ownership of Ben and Jock to today’s charitable organization is a challenge not for the faint-of-heart!  These dedicated people gathered last weekend to “walk the talk” — to connect, share, learn from each other and continue to build a solid foundation for today and tomorrow.  When you look at the faces in the picture below, take a moment and join us in a thank you from the heart.
