Person to Person
Conversations. At the core of virtually every connection we make
is a conversation. It is an opening to learn, to discover the unimagined,
to "Develop and Deepen Relationships in Our Daily Lives".
In response to conversations with people like you we are reminded of
the value of simple, informal opportunities to connect and learn more about
ourselves and each other. We also hear that many of you know people
who are interested in learning more about The Haven and some of the concepts
and experiences offered in courses here.
With all of this in mind, we are beginning a series of evening information
sessions with presentations by various members of our faculty. These
brief talks will address a broad range of topics and issues, and include
time for informal questions and conversations. These gatherings are
free, and open to all. The first session is December 2nd at the Dunbar
Community Center in Vancouver with Cathy and Ernie McNally presenting a
look at the impact of communication in relationships. For details
and times go to
www.haven.ca/institute/awayevents.html
We respect that each person makes choices in their own way and time.
You have likely heard this at The Haven often, and you may be wondering
why we are bringing it up now. We are keenly aware that many organizations
use "information sessions" as a way to make quick sales, and that people
attending often feel pressured. This is the antithesis of our intention
for these sessions. Our intention is simply to share information
and engage with each other. As with all thoughtful decisions, information
and conversations play a key role in making our choices. This belief
is at the core of everything we do to share awareness of The Haven, and
it is also at the core of our information sessions. We look forward
to seeing old friends and making new acquaintances, and learning along
the way. See you there!
New Works From An Old Friend
Many
of you may know Wayne Allen from his frequent participation in courses
here and his work as founder of the Phoenix Centre in Ontario. His
just-published book "This Endless Moment" and CD "Introduction to Bodywork
and Breathwork" are well worth a read and listen. Wayne's book offers
insights into enhancing life and relationships and the CD is abundant with
practical, easy-to-understand ways to "breathe new life" into our bodies.
"I really wanted to write this book," says Wayne,
"I've spent
decades applying the lessons contained in this book in my own life. A couple
of years ago, several clients in a row asked for a book that would be a
reminder of what I'd said to them in session. I thought it sounded
like a great idea. That great idea led to two years of thought, writing
and editing!"
Wayne has received high praise for his work, notably from our founders,
Ben Wong and Jock McKeen:
"Wayne Allen has taken important complex concepts and has expressed
them in an accessible and practical way. His very personal approach is
remarkable. This is an excellent readable book. We're impressed!"

The Gift
It seems that for many of us the end of a year is time to pause, take
stock, and check the lay of our personal land. We think you will
find this reflected in the nature and quality of our year-ending courses;
fun, on-going challenges, new possibilities, connection within and with
others, time to stand forward, time to take care...the most important gift
may be the one you give yourself...

Start Spreading The News!
Last
January Jonathan Diderich came to a Come Alive, and The Haven, for the
first time. There began a relationship that has grown and evolved
over the past several months, and October 1st Jonathan joined us to work
with marketing and business development. From our first connection
we were struck with his integrity, passion, and seemingly boundless enthusiasm
(his picture may give you some indication of what we speak!).
Marketing can be a challenging area at the best of times. We find
ourselves learning more every day as we do our best to increase people's
awareness of something as personal and unique as The Haven; be respectful
of you and others, and faithful to our core values and intention.
We are thrilled to have someone with Jonathan's character and creativity
join us in this challenge!

Just Quickly...
If you are looking for a conversation starter, ask someone what their
best and worst New Years celebrations were! From a quiet night alone,
to the party from hell, to moments of great promise, our memories of bringing
in new years-past seem to live on. We think this is one of the reasons
Reflections has become such a warm tradition...Ben and Jock offering some
of their current thoughts and musings...creative afternoons leading to
the legendary New Year's Eve follies...the opportunity to connect with
others around a circle, or around a meal...quiet moments with a friend,
a book, or wandering the gardens, trails, and beachfront...unwinding appreciative
muscles with a massage and a soak in the hot-tub...and greeting 2005 in
the company of people we have come to know personally, over several years
or the past few days. If you have been here for Reflections we believe
you have had your own version of what we are describing, and if you have
never been, we invite you to come and discover for yourself.
