Experiencing the Victoria Experience
Ben & Jock presenting to a full houseWhere to begin to try and tell you about The Haven's "Innovative Approaches for Effective Living" event held in Victoria September 17-18...do we tell you about the sold-out, standing-room-only turnout for an engaging weekend gathering that began with one of Ben and Jock's trademark lively and thought-provoking presentations?  Or how audience and presenters alike engaged each other throughout the weekend in an ongoing exchange of questions, ideas, and what-ifs?  Maybe we try and describe the hum of energy throughout the Holiday Inn as pockets of conversation sprang to life in corridors and session rooms.  We could also write about the apparent openness and willingness to stretch and try out something new as well as take in some new slants on established perspectives.  And we would probably want to include the pleasure of seeing new acquaintances begun and old ones renewed, along with the contented look of satisfaction on the faces of everyone that worked so hard to make it happen...

Renée McDonald, Lorena Lauzon, Randy WongAnd the reality is that there don't seem to be quite the words to describe what it was like to be in the midst of what we believe The Haven spirit is all about - alive people being together and creating something greater than the sum of us - and the gentle simplicity of what is possible when we speak from our soul and listen from our heart.

We are appreciative of the generous spirit that was in abundance throughout The Haven Experience in Victoria, and excited about what is to come.  Plans are underway for the Spring 2005 Symposium in the Vancouver area (with keynote speaker Joseph Chilton Pearce); people in Victoria are looking ahead to "Island II" next fall, and the doors are open for more community-based opportunities to gather, engage, connect, and create.  Stay Tuned!

Building a Solid Foundation
Dick Sass, Foundation Board ChairmanSince the formal establishment of the Haven Foundation last January, the Board has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure there is a solid team to support the present and future growth of The Haven.  Most recently these efforts have resulted in the following announcement by Chairman of the Board Dick Sass:

"I am pleased to announce the appointments of Connie Munro and Mark Gunderson to the Haven Foundation Board of Directors.

Mark lives in the Edmonton area and has been doing programs at Have n for something close to 20 years.  We all had the distinct pleasure recently of listening to him share with us some ideas he has about energizing our fund raising activities and streamlining all sorts of things.  This guy is quite the spark plug and I for one am so very happy to add his kind of energy to our already outstanding board.

With the addition of Connie Monro we continue to build an extraordinary team.  Her many years of accomplished legal counsel will be a welcome addition to our team.  Connie and husband Peter Joyes and daughter Linnea have recently completed building a home on Gabriola Island and will spend time between Portland Oregon and Gabriola during the coming years.

On yet another front, I am pleased to advise that Gerry Owen has accepted my invitation to serve on The Haven Advisory Council.  In addition to applying his spirit and brain power to this important aspect of The Haven organization Gerry will also continue to serve as legal counsel to the Haven Foundation Board."
