Trip, From Heart To Heart
There is something special about the spirit of one person reaching out to another.  These simple moments of connection have a way of spreading—as if we are just waiting for a reason...an event...an opportunity.  We are in the middle of one of these wonderful moments right now.

Many people opened their hearts to help bring the Centis kids to last year's Dance & Games For Kids.  It was a significant experience for these remarkable children, and planning began almost immediately to have them return this year, along with their foster family.  This year the kids themselves have raised funds through garage sales, doing odd jobs in their neighbourhood, and saving allowances.  You can learn more about the Centis kids story in the Spring '04 and Summer '04 Shens

Dave Paquet met the family last summer when he was here with his child ren for the same Dance & Games.  As is his style, Dave rolled up his sleeves and got involved.  He talked with his friend David Liebe, and together they are putting on a fundraiser concert in Vancouver featuring David Liebe's band TRIP Friday, June 25, at The Purple Crab on Main & 23rd!  Every dollar the band receives will go directly to the Centis Kids Fund.  In addition David and the group are digging into their own pockets to rent the P.A. for the night, and members of their Staying Alive will be on hand to help at the door and talk about the even t.  For more information call Dave Paquet at  604 417-1343

Thank you Dave and David for coming up with a great answer to the question "What can I do?"  And what the rest of us can do is mark June 25 on our calendar, treat ourselves to some great music, bump into some old friends, and enjoy the pleasure of being in the middle of one of those "wonderful moments."

You & Ben & Jock
Over the thirty-plus years of their relationship, Ben & Jock have touched many lives.  Along the way there have been an abundance of stories and events told and re-told about these special and memorable times; some with tears, some with laughter, some with the stillness of warm reminiscence.
Pieter, Linda & Curt photo
Linda Nicholls is collaborating with Curt Hunter and Pieter Stathis on a documentary about Ben & Jock's life story, with the working title "The Crucible".  They are looking for stories that you think will help define their lives, stories about what you have learned from them, your anecdotes, and/or photos or video/film footage you would be willing to offer about your relationship with "B&J."

Please send a brief synopsis of what you have to thecrucible@shaw.ca and they will get back to you about when and where to send it.

Summerizing
Warm days... gentle breezes... friends... the ocean... the beach... exploring and discovering... sunset... gardens... The Haven...need we say more?

Bararumba Returns!
Bararumba photoLast summer almost 200 people jammed the Phoenix Auditorium with twelve talented and engaging performers from the east coast of Cuba for a night of music, dance, and fireworks (literally) that defies description!  The evening reached a passion-laden crescendo as performers and audience joined in a concert-ending celebration of everything music offers.

The 2-day workshops, drumming and/or dancing, were as much fun as the people leading them.  Beginning and experienced drummers and dancers alike grinned through two days of rhythm and movement as they learned the sheer pleasure of pounding drums, dancing hips, smiling eyes, and swaying arms that is the essence of Cuban-Latin music and culture.

We are thrilled to have arranged for their return July 31 and August 1 for another two day Dance & Drum Workshop and evening Concert—this time 15-strong with an all-new show!  Rather than try in vain to describe the musical spirit and energy of that memorable time, we thought we would let the picture do the talking (more pictures at the Concert link), and invite you to sign up soon for a weekend of fun, friendship, music, and learning extraordinaire!
