Christine Kane
October 4
|
|
Christine is a powerful performer singer-songwriter
whose voice is earthy & elegant, whose words are vulnerable & true,
and whose music is raw, rhythmic, and real.
|
|
|
|
Christine Kane has toured nationally
for seven years and has independently released four albums. Her songs have
been included on compilation CD's for Putumayo Records Women's Work
and on Here We Are. This talented woman has toured and performed
with a wide range of the world's favorite artists including The Beach Boys,
Los Lobos, Nanci Griffith and Greg Brown. She has headlined at Chattanooga's
Riverbend Festival, the Madison Folk Festival, Asheville's Bele Chere Festival
and will be a resident songwriting instructor for the renowned Swannanoa
Gathering 2002. Her humour, honesty and fearless "conversations" with her
audiences have led her to perform at national conferences covering a broad
range of topics, from the environment to fundraising for at-risk teens.
She has performed with Concerts for a Landmine Free World and many other
humanitarian events.

Chuck Pyle &
Annie Gallup
October 18
|
"Most of us tend to get philisophical
when we're old - what else is there to do? So I definately sit around and
sound like I know what I'm talking about."
Chuck Pyle
|
|
|
|
Chuck Pyle credits his sheer
love of playing music with helping him overcome his essentially introverted
nature: "I was so shy, then the first time I made an audience laugh, I
wanted to do it again." So much so that he considers himself a performer
first andforemost, despite his respected songwriter status - Suzy Bogguss,
Jerry Jeff Walker, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and the late John Denver all
recorded songs by Pyle, as did Chris LeDoux, who had a 1991 hit with
Pyle's "Cadillac Cowboy". Pyle jokes that he plays music so he won't have
to be a businessman, but his songs are far more observant and thoughtfully
crafted than that jest implies. Famously labeled "the Zen Cowboy", Chuck
sees himself as much a philosopher as a troubadour. "I'm certainly entering
into geezerhood," he wisecracks.

| Annie is
the real thing. Her work stands with that of many contemporary lions |

|
Annie
Gallup left home to attend the University of Michigan School of
Art, and she has been on the move ever since, living in many places with
an eclectic assortment of jobs: baker, illustrator, sail maker, metal smith,
waitress, and licensed massage therapist. With the1994 release of her
first CD, Cause and Effect, she began touring full time.
Each of her five albums have met with critical acclaim. Beat Poet, songwriter
and 'spoke folk' artist, her writing is unabashedly imaginative and richly
sensual. Annie has become known for engaging and compelling performances
focused, dramatic and totally exposed. She is a teller of short,
elaborate tales, song-length works of fiction that sparkle with the complexity
and polish of poetry. Tightly packed lyrical strands that crackle
with intelligence and spry word play and pulse with insistent rhythm.

Pied Pumkin
October 24

Absolutely original, slightly organic
& eternally orange!
|
|
|
|
The
Pied Pumkin String Ensemble
has been creating original, infectious music for over 25 years. In
the mid 70's Pied Pumkin - Shari Ulrich, Rick Scott and Joe Mock - created
a mixture of timeless music, fearless arrangements and irreverent humour
that defied categorization and made the group a West Coast favourite.
Their combination of dulcimer, violin, guitar and flawless harmonies created
a sound completely original and enduring. They self-produced two albums
which sold over 30,000 copies for their own Squash Records one of
Canada's first independent labels. The Pumkin's 1998 retrospective
CD, Plucking DeVine, made CBC's Jurgen Gothe's Top Ten Album list
and was nominated as Best Folk/Roots Album in the Pacific Music Industry
Awards. In March 2000 they released
Pied Alive, a live CD
of 13 songs recorded during their hugely successful 33-concert tour of
Western Canada in 1999.
After four years of "re-unioning",
Pied Pumkin made it official when they announced that they have "returned"
and will continue to play and record together on an on-going basis.

Tom Kimmel
November 21
|
"Tom Kimmel's moody textured songwriting
reaches into soulful realms that few songwriters enter."
Micheal McCall of Nashville
Scene
|
|
|
|
Tom Kimmel has been called "a singer's
singer, a writer's writer". Over 60 of his songs have appeared on
major label releases by artists from Linda Ronstadt to Randy Travis.
Since 1980, when his compositions were recorded by the Byrds' Roger McGuinn
& Chris Hillman and the Band's Levon Helm, his songs have appeared
in feature films (including Twins and Runaway Bride), television shows
(including Miami Vice, Touched By An Angel and Dawson's Creek) and several
made-for-TV movies.
Joe Cocker, Johnny Cash, John Farnham,
Shawn Colvin, the Stray Cats and others have sold millions of albums around
the world featuring Tom Kimmel compositions, achieving gold and platinum
sales in Australia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, the UK, Canada and the
USA. Tom's peers and critics are plainspoken in their appreciation
of his work. Irish songstress Maura O'Connell, who has recorded haunting
versions of his songs The Blue Train and Poetic Justice, says, "Tom is
an incredible songwriter... and he seems to be getting better as the years
go on."
