Professional Training

The Haven Institute for Professional Training is an educational centre offering a wide range of courses and opportunities for professional training. Many participants choose to return on a regular basis to blend and adapt learnings to their relationships with family, friends, community and work. Others choose to pursue the Intern training opportunities in one of the training programs.

Studies at The Haven Institute are designed to suit a broad range of life circumstances, interests, and learning styles. Each individual can experience the pleasure of personal discovery and professional development in an atmosphere respectful of individual strengths and challenges.

Intern training at The Haven Institute can be tailored to suit the needs, desires and circumstances of the student. Training occurs over several years with a mix of short (2 to 6 days) and longer (13 to 26 days) courses. With the guidance of the Director of Education, the student can follow either the Certificate in Counselling or Diploma in Counselling path.

Certificate and Diploma in Counselling Programs
PD Seminars Ltd, the parent company of The Haven Institute for Professional Training, is registered in the province of British Columbia as a Private Post Secondary Institution in accordance with the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia(PCTIA)(SBC CHAP 64). It is also a certified educational institution under Section 118.5 and 118.6 of the Canada Income Tax Act.

With this Certification and Registration we offer a unique opportunity to attain either a Certificate in Haven Counselling Skills or continue onwards to either a Diploma in Haven Counselling Skills or a Diploma in Haven Group Facilitation. Training at the Certificate level involves assisting with the group and training at the Diploma level involves more responsibilities assisting faculty and supervising less experienced interns.

New Syllabus from July 1 2008
The Haven will be introducing new Certificate and Diploma programs from 1 July 2008. All students registered after July 1 will follow the new syllabus. Using the links on the left panel or following in this description you can first see an overview of the intern path. Then you can move on to the descriptions of each step of the training starting with the Basic Counselling Skills, then the Certificate in Haven Counselling Skills (CHCS) and finally the 2 Diplomas: Diploma in Haven Counselling Skills (DHCS), and Diploma in Haven Group Facilitation (DHGF). Finally the list of electives that can be used as part of the program.

The old Syllabus can still be viewed for historical purposes because some students currently enrolled will remain in it until graduation.
