Jean McLendon
Jean McLendon LCSW, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor
is recognized nationally and internationally for her broad applications to the methods and concepts of the Satir Growth Model. As a master trainer, she travels extensively presenting in the areas of clinical, personal, organizational and leadership development. Jean is President of The Virginia Satir Global Network, formerly Avanta, and the founding Director of Training of The Satir Institute of the Southeast, Inc.
Jean operates a Chapel Hill, North Carolina based multi-service private practice which includes coaching, business consultation, therapy, supervision and training. With nearly 40 years in her career, she has managed four human service programs, been a partner in a consulting firm, served on the Faculties of the University of North Carolina School of Social Work and The National Institute of Mental Health Staff College. Currently, she is a resource specialist for the Organization Systems Renewal leadership program at Seattle University. She is the featured Satir therapist in Allyn & Bacon's video series "Family Therapy with the Experts". Jean has key noted and written journal articles and book chapters for both clinical and organizational professionals.
Virginia Satir wrote about Jean's work that she "has that rare capacity to be able to sit in the airport control tower and, at the same time, be aware of all the planes in her vision and be able to help them find out about themselves and their relationship to each other." Jean believes that increasing self/system esteem supports the health, relationships and performance of individuals, families and organizations. Her ability to understand universal human needs and vulnerabilities allows her to work delicately and strategically across many contexts and cultures with core complex human issues.
