Practicum I: Experiential Focus
|
|
for Interns, Assistants, Group Workers and Clinicians
|
Practicum learning uses a “hands-on” approach to refine known skills and develop new skills. Different from issues addressed in Clinical Interventions, this training course will focus on creating greater ease and dimension in leading personal experiential work.
Participants will
- create and lead personal work
- practice several forms of gestalt
- address all the steps from initiation to integration
|
The “container” for energy and experiential work depends upon appropriate set-up, recognition of timing factors and skills in closing and integrating the work. In the course of leading different forms of personal work, each person will acquire more tools and a greater appreciation for this process.
After exploring many different forms of Gestalt, you can join others and stretch your known comfort zone by trying something new:
- begin work by following movement
- add a Gestalt form to body work
- follow the natural flow of work
- decide when to shift to another form
- amplify energy by using psychodrama
- have experience using at least 3 different Gestalt approaches
|
The music-focused sessions will assist you to:
- Gain a greater understanding of the role music plays in individual, small, and large group sessions
- Identify personal musical preferences and ways to include this knowledge while working with others
- Learn ways to identify appropriate pieces of music for various situations
- Be introduced to methods to build a music collection creatively and cost-effectively
|
Experiential 911: explore your areas of fear and learn what to do in those moments.
- here one minute, gone the next–assess dissociation
- the work just fell apart–when to energize and when to stop
- whatever you worry about
|
You will have an opportunity to identify and develop your own musical appreciation through discussion and exercises. You will explore ways to use music effectively to open and close courses and sessions, to enhance group discussions and personal work, and to "frame" and close personal work. This process includes a brief review of the history, evolution, and qualities of music.
Who would benefit from this course? Practicum I will be immediately usable by students, interns, assistants, group leaders and clinicians working experientially with people. You will develop a greater range and a broader skill level in crafting personal experiences for people. The material will be applicable to both group work and individual or couple practices. Prior participation in Clinical Interventions is recommended but not required. Training Course Hours- 24
