Dealing with the DSM IV
An introduction to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders

Course for:
Professionals, Diploma in Counselling and graduate level students with no or minimal understanding of psychiatric/mental health assessment and the DSM IV.

Description:
The American Psychiatric Association's standard of classification has initiated much debate amongst medical practitioners, professional counsellors, social workers and therapists regarding the benefits and limitations to the individual/client and to the medical/psychiatric system. This course will explore these issues as well as provide an introduction and overview of the psychiatric assessment, the DSM IV classification system, diagnostic formulation, and treatment considerations. Participants will have an opportunity to focus on specific diagnoses of interest for a more in-depth study.

Format:
This two-day course is structured as an informal lecture with ample time for questions/answers and dialogue with the leader and other participants.
