Relationships

Course for:
  • couples whose relationships have grown stale or unhappy
  • couples who have separated or are separating, wanting clarity
  • individuals who wish to explore how intimacy can be developed
  • family members who wish to improve their relationships
  • co-workers who wish to improve their relationships
  • friends who want to deepen their friendship
  • anyone desiring to learn relating principles
Description
Most people live their lives in relationship to others, be it a partner, friend, business colleague or other members of their family. Although having such relationships is a significant experience most are ill-prepared to maintain them. Frequently, even with the best of intentions, the results are confusion, poor communication, mutual resentment, emotional isolation, non-supportive behavior and ultimately, embattled separation.

This three-day course is designed to provide the information and experience by which such relationships can be improved, or new relationships can be established in a healthier fashion.

Format
People who come with partners or family will work in their own primary relationships. Individuals who attend alone will be assigned to work with others. Everyone will have the choice to share with the group as much or as little as desired. There will be lectures and demonstrations regarding the principles underlying the development and course of relationships. Special attention will be devoted towards the difficulties usually encountered along the path of intimacy.

People will explore these principles and difficulties with their ‘significant other’ or their assigned partner. In both small and large groups, each person and couple will have as much privacy as desired. Most of the explorations will involve discussion, augmented by some communication exercises and assignments.

Issues that will be covered include the natural history of most relationships, intimacy, sexuality, improving communications, resolving differences and making relationships more meaningful.

Note
When Relationships is scheduled as part of the Phase II program, individuals coming to this course will join with Phase II participants.
