Couples will emerge from the course with skills intended to increase self-definition, identify and express preferences, the ability to be in the tension of disagreement, and ways that boundaries can be lived and expressed in a primary relationship. Participants will also learn ways to distinguish walls and boundaries and the values of each. They will be better able to recognize entrenched family rules and patterns, and circumstances in which they get 'stuck'. Through this process they will learn ways of enhancing their primary relationship through increased vulnerability, deepening intimacy, and a genuine appreciation and celebration of their differences.
In a fun, dynamic and engaging way, participants will first use the elements of communication to identify and share their experiences with boundaries in relationship. Then, through a series of concepts, exercises and periods of sharing and reflection, participants will begin to see the impact of the boundarying process on their self-definition and, as a result, their primary relationship. In addition, they will have the opportunity to see the 'ripple-effect' that clear boundaries can have on every other relationship in their lives. Participants (couples/pairs) will be encouraged to focus on tailoring the process to their specific situation and individual styles.
NOTE: This course is intended for couples in a primary relationship. However, if two individuals not presently in a primary relationship with each other are prepared to participate together, we believe they will find their learnings beneficial for their present or future relationships. The course is designed for pairs who already have some degree of relationship.
This course is for couples:
- Who want more clarity with each other in their daily lives
- Who struggle expressing wants desires and preferences
- Who want to improve their communication around choices and possibilities
- Who find themselves resenting themselves and/or their partner after decisions have been made
