Satir's Legacy: 20 Years Later and Beyond
|
A once in a lifetime opportunity sponsored by The Virginia Satir Global Network, (formerly known as Avanta), and Science and Behavior Books
|
Satir's Legacy: 20 Years Later and Beyond is a two-week intensive, residential training experience for therapists, leaders, managers, life coaches, owners, consultants, trainers and other change agents based upon the methods and teachings of The Satir Growth Model. Master trainers John Banmen, R. Psych., RMFT, Maria Gomori, Ph.D., MSE, Dip. C, and Jean McLendon, LMFT, LCSW will lead the training and will be on-site for the entire experience.
You will become part of a process community based upon elements of Virginia Satir's Crested Butte Process Communities. Come meet practitioners from around the world who apply The Virginia Satir Growth Model in a variety of ways and contexts. This training is designed to cultivate knowledge and skills for the beginner and advanced practitioner. Participants will have many opportunities for practice in large, small and triadic groups.
What You Will Learn:
- Concepts and methods for tracking and changing communication patterns
- Strategies for building self and system esteem
- Methods for discovering and understanding the power of the family of origin experience
- Steps to transform family of origin copings and rules into new possibilities for congruence
- Processes for handling emotionally intense interactions
- Methods for developing healthy and responsive personal and work relationships
- Ways to transform your problems into goals
- Processes for developing safety in a learning community
- Skills for transformational change

Program Content:
Topics will be covered through presentation, large and small group discussion, and experiential exercises. Program content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Overview of the Satir Growth Model
An exploration into the core beliefs and methods of the Satir Growth Model
- Family Rules
A universal way for transforming rules into guides for more choice and health
- Self-Esteem, Communication and Congruence
An integrated approach to congruent communication, in which self-esteem resources are engaged to transform defense coping patterns into positive, authentic behaviors
- Iceberg
A tool for viewing levels of the self to help access your behaviors, feelings, perceptions and expectations in interactions with others
- Ingredients of an Interaction
A six-step process for improving communication processes, healing communication breakdowns and developing awareness of self and other in personal and work relationships
- Five Freedoms
A five-part process to create an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open and rules are flexible
- Parts Party
An exercise for bringing acquaintance, understanding, harmony and integration of parts of the self
- Family Reconstruction
A guided role-play which helps people learn from their extended family to rebuild self-worth, create awareness of choices and to appreciate the humanness of parents
- Applications
A creative group process which uses the mind, body and spirit in order to enhance personal growth, clinical skills, and organization and community development

Accommodation Costs
Lodging, three meals per day, coffee breaks and snacks are included in the daily accommodation fee.
