5 Elements Practicum - An Oriental Philosophic Approach to Energy
Oriental Medicine Philosophy, particularly 5 Element Theory is a rich wholistic model of viewing ourselves and our world and the process/elements of change we move through. Within the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine, much attention is being paid to the physical aspects of this tradition. Although important, this model born out of Taoism, has a much broader scope that is applicable and useful in our daily lives, beyond the 'treatment' aspect.
This course focuses on the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the tradition, offering a grounding in how to use the model as an alternative to other psychological models. The focus is a relational model of change, recognizing the crucial component of contact with ourselves and other in any change/healing process.
Specific Sessions will include:
- Introduction of the relational aspect of the model - Yin/Yang theory, Micro/Macrocosm, concept of Qi/Universal Energy, Harmony vs. balance, Dualism
- Review of each of the Elements - with spiritual aspects & key personality characteristics of each - tuning into our rich personal imagery and body experience to connect with Elements and each other
- Identifying an Element - using Color, smell, pulse, voice tone, Shen, language/content of conversation, what missing? Using ourselves as an instrument
- How to move the Qi - including Source pts and other therapeutic techniques/focuses from Haven models used
- Cycle of Change - how this model identifies a process of change that can be used to identify blockages at the microcosmic level to the macrocosmic level
