Course Descriptions


Skills 2: Group Leadership

Skills 2: Group Leadership explores aspects of leading groups of various types including group formation, designing group experiences and interventions for common problems and issues.

This course includes lectures and discussion, as well as demonstration and practice. Students are encouraged to look at their own experience to develop understanding of working successfully with others in group settings.

Students in the course will:
  • increase their discernment around group situations and recognize when to use which method of work with the group
  • learn how to use counter transference clues to understand events in group
  • learn at least one intervention that is helpful for each group situation examined
  • increase their leadership competence
Who will benefit:
This course is for interns, assistants, group leaders and clinicians, those who supervise staff or lead groups in settings such as volunteer agencies. The course has been designed for those who have completed Phase III; however, a lack of such previous training is no barrier to learning from, and enjoying this program.


Continuing Education Credits:
Approved for Continuing Education Credit hours by the Canadian Counselling Association (www.ccacc.ca) .

Course Evaluation:
A student/participant who attends a minimum of 90% of the total course sessions shall receive a "Pass" grade. A student/participant who is absent for more than 10% of the session will receive an "Incomplete" grade and credit will not be granted.
