Summary Description:
When we are in communication with our friends, partners, families, colleagues etc., we are often not focusing on our bodies. When communicating, our society values and emphasizes the mind as the primary informant. In this paradigm, the tendency is to utilize and experience the body as a by-product, or as an object to control and manage throughout our communication. Our communication is assumed to simply be an exchange of ideas, thoughts, and sometimes, feelings.
Yet, in communication, it is our bodies that attend to our ways of collecting information and sensing our internal and external world. The body reacts and responds physically to all our interactions. The body informs us about every aspect of our relating and communicating with self and other.
This course is for people who want to:
- open and deepen their communication;
- communicate and make contact from a "present" state;
- focus on their body process while in communication with others, to learn about body tracking, body sensations, body cues, "updating" the body; static and non-static energy, grounding, and energetic boundaries;
- discover old and new stories created in connection to sensations;
- explore their ideologies and what the body may be actually doing ;
- consider how to apply body experiences to free up habitual self patterns; and
- learn to distinguish sensations from feelings, to open and create a greater range of sensational responses and awaken to contact while communicating.

Format and Models:
This three day, 8-session course will use experiential exercises: drawing, self-regulatory energy exercises, sculpting; movement; visualizations, group sharing and lectures.
Models will be used as a foundation to explore what meanings, experiences and actions we create with our bodies and their sensations. Energy models in this course are drawn from a number of sources: From India, the "Chakra System"; The Medical Model of Neurological Systems; Traditional Chinese Medicine; and Extra Sensory Perception; the Communication Model; the 5 "A's"; and "Body Tracking" techniques.
Course Content:
Learning is intended to be cumulative through the three days with participants dealing with increasingly in-depth issues related to the body in its communication with others:
- Understanding Body Sensations: What are body sensations, how do we create sensations, how are they part of our communication? What types of sensations are there? What is your body sensation range? What is "Extra Sensory Perception" (ESP)? How are sensations distinguished from feelings and why is this important?
- The Body in Communication: The body is constantly communicating and informing us and has it's own process of language to decipher and work with. Awareness and knowledge of what the body is trying to communicate can serve us in physical health as well as communication with others. The body can be accessed as a valuable resource in aiding us in our connection, communication and intimacy.
- Body Tracking: Identify and notice body sensations; listen to unique body cues and attend to them. Modify and expand repertoire of sensations; learn to self-regulate sensations and energy. Work with the body, not against it. Increase body-grounding skills, energetic boundaries, the container for feelings and expression. Acquire room for others.
- Pattern Exploration: What body patterns and styles are used for communication. Which styles and patterns work and don't work. Which ones get us into trouble or block the pathway to communicating with others.
- Mind, Body and Spirit Interaction: We make meaning of our sensations and create stories and beliefs that are at times helpful and sometimes not. We carry old stories around in our bodies and beliefs that can be used to prejudice our present experiences. We all have the potential to adapt our beliefs and body sensations to support our authentic purpose in life. Our bodies play a role in our spiritual lives as well as our spirit plays a role in our body.
